Pongalo! Pongal! The joyful chant resonated through the assembly, embodying the essence of happiness, prosperity, and gratitude. This unique festival is celebrated across India in various forms, such as Lohri in Punjab, Bihu in Assam, and Makar Sankranti in several states. Pongal, meaning "boiling over," symbolizes abundance and prosperity. As part of the tradition, rice and milk are boiled and offered to the Sun God. Makar Sankranti, also known as the Kite Festival, marks the harvest season.
The students of KGIA, accompanied by a few KGII students from all sections, presented an impressive assembly highlighting the cultural and spiritual significance of Pongal and Makar Sankranti. The event featured a vibrant display of songs and dance performances, celebrating the harvest festival in all its glory. Under the expert guidance of their class teacher, Ms. Vaishnavi Pai, the students delivered a well-coordinated and captivating presentation.
The event concluded with an inspiring message from the Pre-Primary Vice Principal, Ms. Prema George. She eloquently emphasized the importance of these festivals, reminding everyone of the splendor of Mother Earth, the life-sustaining role of the Sun, and the necessity of expressing gratitude to farmers and farm animals. She also highlighted the timeless value of togetherness and cultural heritage.
