ONAM CELEBRATION AT INDIAN SCHOOL MUSCAT: A CULTURAL SYMPHONY

The Onam celebrations of 2025 unfolded in vibrant hues of timeless tradition at Indian School Muscat on September 20, as the staff and their families gathered in joyous harmony to honour Kerala’s resplendent harvest festival and the legend of King Mahabali. The distinguished presence of the Chief Guest, Mr. Syed Ahmad Salman, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Indian Schools Oman, and Dr. Kiran G R, President of the School Management Committee, along with other esteemed directors of the Board and honourable members of the School Management Committee, elevated the spirit of unity that Onam inspires. The school campus was transformed into a sanctum of artistry, with the grand entrance embellished with a meticulously crafted Pookkalam and a symbolic snake boat reflecting the regal grace of the occasion. As the rhythmic beats of Panchavadyam reverberated through the air, the festive enclave breathed the fragrance of heritage and the harmonious pulse of tradition.

The arrival of Mahabali exalted the audience with a sense of sacred grandeur. Clad in royal splendour, the king was welcomed with exuberant applause, honouring the ideals of unity and equality that Onam venerates. Steeped in traditional fervour, the School Principal, Mr. Rakesh Joshi, welcomed the gathering, followed by a digital presentation offering a virtual tour of Kerala, the verdant land draped in peace and prosperity. The cultural segment was a spectacular tapestry of dance, music and expression flowing in graceful harmony as staff from all four sections of the school, the Administration department and the CSE wing joined hands in celebration. Each performance portrayed a living mural of Kerala’s lore, resonating with joy, nostalgia and the eternal rhythm of belonging.

As the luminous strains of culture gave way to laughter and cheer, the venue transformed into a lively arena of traditional Onam games, kindling unbridled joy among all. The event drew to a close with a heartfelt expression of gratitude by Mr. Saji S Nair, Senior Vice Principal, Administration. This was followed by the Onam Sadya, a splendid vegetarian banquet served on banana leaves, with vibrant flavours that paid a fragrant tribute to Kerala’s rich culinary legacy. With hearts uplifted, the Onam celebration at Indian School Muscat stood not merely as a festival observed but as a grand expression of unity in diversity and a cultural symphony magnificently cherished.
