Testing and Evaluation

The Primary Section follows the Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation for Std I to IV. The objective of this exercise is to shift the focus of academic activities of the learners and to facilitate the learners to address various facets of learning encompassing the cognitive, affective and psychomotor domains. This would also help in distressing learning so that undue focus is not given to examinations in the early stages of a student’s life.

The following general parameters are used by the teachers to check the proficiency of the students in various students.

There could be a slight variation in the usage of parameters of testing for different classes . The meticulous planning for the parameters are done by the HODs.

It may be noted that  formative assessments are conducted throughout the term. A few types of formative assessments are indicated below.

  • Open Book Tests
  • Activity in various subjects for eg. in English-  to find meanings of the word, clay modelling activities in Science and Social Studies.

Various drill sheets, activity sheets and home assignments are prepared by the team of teachers . They are well -graded to improve the foundation of the learner at each step.

End of chapter/lesson tests are conducted for Std I and Std II. They are titled as Revision Work Sheets.

Summative Tests for Std III and IV are conducted at the end of each term. A time- table for the summative-tests is given in advance to the students. The portions are also included in the time- table circular .

The formative as well as the summative tests are very well- laid out to ensure that learning is a pleasurable activity in the formative years of the child.

The continuous evaluation is very advantageous to parents, teachers and the child.

They are as follows.

  1. They help in regular assessment to the extent and degree of learner’s progress.
  2. It helps the teachers to ascertain the individual learner’s strengths and weakness.
  3. It can motivate children to develop good study habits, to correct errors and to direct their activities towards the achievement of desired goals. It can help a learner to determine the areas of instruction in which more emphasis is required.
  4. It also helps to identify areas of aptitude and interest. It helps in identifying changes in attitudes and value systems.
  5. It provides information/reports on the progress of students in scholastic and co – scholastic areas and thus helps in predicting the future success of the learner.
