Each student can choose any one from the above listed activities depending upon their interest and aptitude. The teachers train them and grade them on the basis of the performance shown by the students in each term.

The school nurtures the talents of students in different forms of dance. The students who have chosen dance as their optional subject are given classes twice a week in classical, fusion and contemporary dances by experts. All important festivals and competitions are conducted showcasing the talents of students in various forms of dance. They have participated in the Jhankar Spectrum, Muscat Festival and events organized by Indian Social Club and have brought laurels to the school.

ART

We follow activity oriented Art Education to improve students’ creativity and skill. We cover following subjects in our syllabus Memory drawing, Nature drawing, Still life, Portrait study, Landscape and Creative Design.

We introduced Art Plus book with various activities. We scrutinize and evaluate the standard of drawings as well as we do continuous comprehensive evaluation as per CBSE.

We conduct art competitions in the school as well as encourage the students to participate in various external competitions.

We insist parents to allow children to do art work at home and request parents to check whether child is carrying art materials to the school or not.

Western Orchestra Middle

The School Orchestra consist of string, wood wind and percussion instruments such as violin, guitar, piano, mandolin, recorder, jazz drums, bongo, congo, tumba, tabla, tamborine, maracus, triangle, adguiros, rattle, rekal, wood blocks, xylophone, arabic drums, viola and cabasa. The students who have opted for Western Instrumental Music are trained regularly. Many of the students from ISM have opted for music for their higher studies from Western Universities.

The orchestra perform for various functions in school and outside shows such as Annual Academic Award, School Annual Day, Investiture Ceremony, ISM Merit Awards, Independence Day and Republic Day, Teachers day, Childrens’ day, Khimji Awards Ceremony, Specials Assemblies such as Christmas, Diwali, Eid, Onam, , 12th farewell day in school as well as for the Indian Embassy Programmes.

We follow the Associate Board for Royal School of Music, London and Trinity college of music, London syllabus.

“LET THE INTELLECT SHINE. LET THE ROLLING OF BRAIN RACE WITH EVERY MINUTE.”

This is the motto of the Quiz department of Middle section at ISM.

As a part of co. curricular activities, quizzing is given prime importance in the middle section.

The students take part in inter-school quiz competitions conducted by the quiz pot team. A dedicated team of 10 teachers train the students extensively during their free periods for the competitions. Every month, worksheets having questions relating to the current affairs are regularly given to the students as part of their training. Regular tests are conducted to filter out the best students for the quiz pots and Inter Class Quizzes . During the current academic year, the FIRST quiz pot (STD 5 – 8) was held at Indian School Al wadi Al kabir on 10th May 2012. Our teams secured the 1st and 2nd positions. The team members were:

The NATIONAL QUIZ for the students of the middle section (Std 6,7, 8) was conducted at Indian school AL GHUBRA ON 18th Oct 2012. All the Indian schools in Oman took part in this Quiz. Our team secured the SECOND position in this quiz. The team members were: RUTWIK VISHWAMITRE (std viii), ANIRUDH MURTHY (std vii) & AANVIK SINGH (std vi).

The SECOND quiz pot was conducted at Indian School Muscat on 4th Oct 2012.

Our team secured the FIRST position in the quiz. The team members were:

a. MANN VERLEKAR (STD VIII) b. ALIVA DAS (STD VII) c. AKASH SARKAR(STD VI)
d. DESH IYER (STD V). The quiz department also conducts INTER-CLASS QUIZ for the students of std 5-8. This enables the students to develop well-rounded and plausible habits on studying. WIN OR LOSE, the participants will be able to gain experience and exposure after the competition.

SCOUTING &GUIDING ACTIVITY

Scouting and Guiding is an important part of our co-curricular activities as well as our curriculum. One period in a week is devoted to these activities in order to nurture the qualities of sharing, adjusting, leadership and tolerance. The basics of Scouts & Guides as well as the physical fitness skills, life saving skills, handicrafts, first- aid, nature study, excursions, camps etc. are imparted to students from time to time. Altogether 60 Scout masters & Guide captains are involved in this programme.
