The meritorious students of the Senior Section of Indian School Muscat were given a befitting honour at the Annual Academic Merit Award Ceremony on Monday, 21st August 2017 at 6.30 p.m. in the School’s multipurpose hall. More than 300 academic toppers from Classes IX to XII including the Stream and Subject toppers of the CBSE Board Examination 2016-17, were awarded with medals, certificates and mementoes. The Chief Guest for this prestigious event was Mr K. K. Choudhury, Controller of Examinations, CBSE. Engg. Nasser Abdullah Al Ghailani, Director General of Muscat Municipality, Greater Muttrah graced the occasion as the special guest of honour.
The Guests of Honour were Mr Wilson V. George, Chairman, Board of Directors of Indian Schools in the Sultanate of Oman, and Mr. N. Omanakuttan, President, School Management Committee, Indian School Muscat. Members of the School Management Committee, Chairpersons of various Sub-committees of Indian School Muscat, the Principal Dr. Rajeev Kumar Chauhan, Senior Vice Principal Admin, Advisor to the Principal, Vice Principals, Assistant Vice principals and Principals of various Indian schools in Oman were present to celebrate this moment of pride. A host of other dignitaries, teachers, parents and students joined in this ceremony and encouraged the prodigious students who are on their way to greater heights.

The ceremonial lighting of the lamp marked the beginning of this grand event. It was followed by the Royal Anthem of Oman and National Anthem of India. The Chief Guest and the Guests of Honour were presented with potted plants as a customary welcome. The programme began with an invocation dance, ‘Guru Vandana’ which was a prayer for teachers who dispel darkness and enlighten the students. The school Head Girl, Shravani Garmella formally welcomed the gathering.

The magnificent achievements and caliber of the students throughout the year was portrayed through an imposing digital presentation. The theme dance ‘Suryodya’, a fusion of Art forms conceptualized holistic education that prepares students not only to meet the challenges of life but also to acquire excellence and self-reliance. The cultural plethora for the day included enthralling songs, both in Hindi and English and soulful instrumental renditions which left the audience spellbound.

13 students of ISM who participated in the Guinness World Records for ‘The longest crocheted scarf’ (measuring 14.089 Km) were felicitated during this ceremony. AV A Abhinanda Kumar, Country Winner for Green Olympiad for the Sultanate of Oman was also honoured on this day.

The Chief Guest, Mr. K. K. Choudhury, in his address lauded the students on their impressive achievements and urged them to remember the prime role of teachers and parents. He lauded the performance of Indian School Muscat, and stated that the school is doing profoundly well. He encouraged the students to be worthy citizens of their home country and also of the country in which they are residing. He wished them well in all their endeavours.

The Guest of Honour, Mr. Wilson P George congratulated the entire teaching community for their unstinting hard work and the parents for their constant support for their children. He applauded the students for their impeccable performance and congratulated them. The programme concluded with the School Anthem led by the School Choir. The School Head Boy, P. Sai Saran proposed the vote of thanks.
